MAKE Santa Fe is a shared community space where everyone’s safety, creativity, and respect for one another come first. Please read and follow these policies carefully—they ensure we all get the most out of our membership.
- PPE: Always wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment
- Use the right tool: Prevent damage to tools (and yourself!) by choosing correctly.
- No trip wires: Keep cords out of walkways.
- Keep tools in their shop: Woodshop tools stay in the woodshop, metal shop tools stay in the metal shop, etc.
- Don’t use the last of anything: The last of any consumable is for emergencies only—notify staff when supplies run out.
- Don’t hoard materials: Shared materials are for everyone. Bring your own if you need more than a few pieces.
- Tools do not leave MAKE: Tools stay in the space under all circumstances.
- Contain your mess: Making is messy—just keep it organized and safe.
- Clean up: Leave the shop at least 10% cleaner than you found it.
- You must be trained on any tool you use via badge classes.
- Closed-toed shoes are required throughout the space.
- Eye and ear protection required when appropriate.
- Ask questions if you’re unsure about a tool.
- If you see something unsafe, let us know immediately.
- Clean up after yourself—really.
- Respect the work and space of other makers.
- Follow opening and closing times. Begin cleaning 30 minutes before closing.
- Everyone is here to learn—encourage, don’t discourage.
- Share tools and workspace responsibly.
- Be kind.
- Don’t offer unsolicited advice.
- Speak up if you notice unsafe behavior.
- All tools must stay in the space.
- Clean tools after use.
- Use tools only for their intended purpose.
- Return tools to their proper storage.
- Report damaged tools or maintenance issues to staff.
- Bring your own materials for most projects.
- Scrap bins and collection bins are available for small-use needs.
- Never use the last of anything.
- Welders are stocked with wire, but bring your own for large projects.
- Space is limited. Overnight/dry-time storage must be approved by staff.
- Lockers and bins are available for rent. See Member Benefits.
- Limited metal storage in the yard—check with staff before using.
- Let staff know in advance if expecting a delivery.
- Be present to receive your items—staff may not accept deliveries.
- Arrange help for heavy deliveries (steel, lumber, etc.).

Unacceptable behaviors include:
- Offensive or derogatory comments about race, gender, sexuality, disability, or other personal characteristics.
- Physical or verbal threats or intimidation.
- Unwelcome sexual attention or advances.
- Disruption of workshops or events in a hostile or aggressive manner.
Reporting Procedure:
If you experience or witness harassment, report it to staff in person or email build@makesantafe.org. Reports are handled discreetly and taken seriously. Consequences may include suspension or permanent removal.
MAKE Santa Fe is built on curiosity, generosity, and shared learning.
- Ask before handling or modifying someone else’s project or materials.
- Respect different working styles—some makers prefer solitude.
- Share tools and machines fairly, return them clean.
- Offer advice only when welcomed.
- Give credit where it’s due.
- Communicate with kindness—consent matters in creative spaces too.
